A perfectly festive Christmas at Squerryes

(written exclusively for Kent Life and published in their December 2024 edition)

It’s hard to crush the Christmas spirit… unless you are stuck in the kitchen for hours, worrying about overcooking the turkey, timing the brussel sprouts just right (although let’s be real — has anyone ever truly enjoyed them ?), and wondering why the gravy always turns out lumpy. Nobody dreams of spending Christmas sweating over a stove. This year, Squerryes has your back with their award-winning wines, festive feasts, and a whole lot of holiday cheer. Oh, and not a signal dish to scrub!

Squerryes is more than just a vineyard; it's a celebration of joy and togetherness, embodied in their motto, “Licet Esse Beatis”: It’s permitted to be joyful. Nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside, Squerryes is a family-owned estate that specialises in producing the highest-quality sparkling wines. But don’t take just my word for it… They are the only English wine estate to have won a gold medal for six consecutive vintages in the World Championships of Champagne and Sparkling Wine. This sits alongside multiple other awards, including from the International Wine Challenge and from the Decanter World Wine Awards. All their sparkling wines are vintages, crafted from grapes grown on their own estate high on the North Downs, and made using the traditional method. If these bottles can’t give you pleasure, I don’t know what will!

This festive season, Squerryes offers more than just wine – they invite you to make lasting memories. For the first time ever, they are hosting Christmas Day Lunch in their two AA Rosette award-winning Winery Restaurant (is there anything at Squerryes that doesn’t win awards ?!). With doors opening from late morning, guests can begin the celebrations with an aperitif at the new chic Tasting Bar before moving upstairs to the restaurant for a luxurious four-course feast, complete with plenty of Squerryes sparkling wine to toast the day. The Christmas Day Menu is packed with festive delights, offering a choice of four dishes for every course. Expect holiday classics alongside estate-inspired dishes, vegetarian options, and family favourites like crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, and spiced braised red cabbage.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Squerryes will also be hosting Christmas Party Nights on December 6th and 12th — perfect for gathering the squad, whether it’s your family, friends, or work crew. Start the evening with a festive drinks reception, followed by a three-course meal featuring seasonal dishes, local produce, and — of course — Squerryes’ exceptional wines! And just when you think you couldn’t eat or drink any more, DJ Marcel Mendez will hit the decks and get everyone dancing to the best club classics. For those looking for something more private, the estate offers intimate dining options, from a cosy three-course lunch to a tasting menu with wine pairings.

If you are looking to end the year in style, The Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve bash at Squerryes is the place to be. Expect a night of glitz, glamour, and good times, complete with canapés, a glass of Squerryes Brut to kick things off, and DJ Marcel Mendez spinning all your favourite club classics. Slip into your snazziest 1920s getup (optional but highly encouraged!) and get ready to shimmy and shake your way into 2025. It’s going to be a night Gatsby himself would approve of!

And what’s a festive celebration without a little indulgence ? For those looking to stock up on holiday goodies, Squerryes’ Estate Deli has a treasure trove of festive delights. Choose from beautifully packaged bottles of sparkling wine to hampers filled with local produce, fine cheeses, and artisanal treats — perfect for gifting or enhancing your own Christmas spread.
